Meals, 3 liters of water, cold-weather gear, transport, and a sleeping bag are included, but entrance fees and optional extras cost more.

“Simply amazing! My only remark is that the sleeping bag, jacket and gloves provided were not thick enough to protect from the cold and I therefore struggled a lot during the night. It's safer to come prepare with clothing of one's own.”

Shared shuttle – between Antigua and Panajachel, Lake Atitlan

4.Shared shuttle – between Antigua and Panajachel, Lake Atitlan

★★★★★★★★★★4.0 · 153 reviews · from $20Best value

Travel between Antigua and Panajachel in an air-conditioned shared van with hotel pickup and drop-off. The ride takes about three hours, with scenic mountain views and a restroom stop on request. Drivers such as Anivel are noted for clear communication, though traffic, cramped seating, and pickup delays can affect the trip.

“For a shared shuttle, the experience was likely typical- meaning you will be at the mercy of limited pick up times, traffic, other travelers, and the driver. Some travelers had to exchange to another vehicle with minimal communication from the initial driver. If traveling with 3 or more people, consider private if able.”

There's not much time for eating until the last part of the tour so make sure you bring snacks if you want to eat something on the way and make sure you have had breakfast before they pick you up. Overall a highly recommendable tour.”

Lake Atitlan: Mayan Ceremony at the Sacred Caves - From Panajachel to the highland trail

Lake Atitlan: Mayan Ceremony at the Sacred Caves

15.Lake Atitlan: Mayan Ceremony at the Sacred Caves

★★★★★★★★★★4.8 · 37 reviews · 2 hours · from $108

From Panajachel, a small group travels to four sacred caves above Lake Atitlan. Guide Alex explains Maya ceremony, calendar traditions, and local life before a possible fire cleansing ritual, Eagle Rock views, and a waterfall visit. Expect a short, steep hike and smoky clothes.

“Participating in the fire ceremony was definitely a highlight. The ride on the chicken bus, the short, steep hike to the caves, the view of the lake. Everything was beautiful. But the ceremony was what made it truly special. Alex, a touching, empathetic, open, lovable man, deeply rooted in his culture and community, guided us with sensitivity through the individual stages of the ceremony and allowed us to become part of the culture. This is not touristy nonsense, but living culture. I am truly grateful for this experience. One tip: take sturdy shoes and clothes that can get dirty. My summer dress was not the best option.”
